The Lymphatic System and Flow: Clearing, Floating, and Feeling Again

If there’s one thing the body needs to stay well, it’s movement. Not just the kind that lifts weights or burns calories—but gentle, flowing movement that helps your body release what it no longer needs.
And at the centre of that? The lymphatic system.
It doesn’t get much attention, but it should. Because it’s key to detoxification, immune health, emotional regulation, and feeling lighter—physically and emotionally.
And in my own work, especially through aerial soundbaths, I’ve started to see just how powerful it can be when sound, scent, and subtle motion come together to support that natural flow.
What Is the Lymphatic System?
The lymphatic system is like the body’s waste removal service. It clears out toxins, supports immunity, and moves fluid between cells.
Unlike the blood, which has the heart to pump it, lymph has no pump.It relies on breath, gravity, and movement to keep it flowing.
When lymph flow is sluggish, you might feel:
Puffy or heavy
Tired or foggy
Prone to swelling or illness
Emotionally stagnant or drained
And while dry brushing and exercise can help, I’ve found a different approach that works gently and holistically—floating in hammocks, while immersed in sound and scent.
The Power of Aerial Soundbaths
In our monthly aerial sessions, we bring people into a cocoon of support.Suspended just above the ground in soft hammocks, participants are gently rocked, surrounded by sound, and enveloped in healing plant essences and aromas.
This isn’t about escape. It’s about coming home to your body through the senses.Letting the nervous system drop into rest.Letting the lymph begin to move again.
What Floating Does for Lymph Flow
The gentle rocking of a hammock creates subtle movement throughout the body—especially the torso and joints, where lymph nodes cluster.
This motion:
Encourages drainage and circulation
Takes pressure off joints and tight fascia
Activates the parasympathetic nervous system, allowing the body to shift into “rest and repair”
Combined with slow breathing and deep vibration from bowls and gongs, it becomes a kind of inner massage—one that doesn’t rely on pressure, only presence.
The Multisensory Approach
I’ve always been highly sensitive to sound.Even as a child, I could feel music move through my whole body. Some songs give me goosebumps. Others transport me.And walking in nature with the right soundtrack? That’s still my reset button.
Smell is different for me.My sense of smell is usually low—but sometimes it spikes.Phantom scents. Flashbacks. Memories I can't place. It’s strange, but it’s mine.
So in our soundbaths, we work with this range. We use essential oils and plant medicines like:
🌹 Red rose – heart opening, softening
🌿 Hawthorn – emotional protection, grounding
🌸 Blue lotus – relaxation, spiritual connection
We diffuse or anoint with:
🌼 Sandalwood, rose, and royal amber – calming and comforting
🌬️ Isis, papyrus, and frankincense – sacred, ancient, clearing
🔥 Burned sage and palo santo – energetic cleansing and focus
Each scent is chosen to stimulate a different part of the sensory system—to guide people deeper into stillness without force.
Where Sound Comes In
Lymph moves through the body silently. So does sound.
But where the lymph removes toxins from the physical body, sound helps shift what the mind has tried to hold on to.
With sound, we can:
Stimulate the vagus nerve to support gut and immune function
Loosen fascial restrictions to let lymph move more freely
Calm the nervous system to create an inner environment where healing can happen
Sound doesn’t push.It resonates. And that resonance, especially when combined with floating and scent, can restore the natural rhythm of flow.
Ongoing Research: How Sound Heals
We’re still learning. In each aerial session, we observe what works—what lands, what moves, what lingers.
We’re currently researching how specific frequencies, body placements, and breath-sound pairings affect lymphatic function and nervous system regulation.
Because I truly believe we’ve only scratched the surface of what sound can do.Especially when paired with intentional space, scent, and movement.
Let’s Leave You with This
If you’ve been feeling heavy—physically, emotionally, energetically…If things feel like they’re not moving—within or around you…If your body is tired but your mind won’t stop…
Don’t push.Don’t power through.
Come back to your senses.Let sound move through you.Let scent guide you home.Let the gentle motion of floating remind your body it’s safe to let go.
🌀Because healing doesn’t always have to be loud.Sometimes, it’s just about flow.
